1.4 Million Square D electrical panels are being recalled by Schneider Electric for a loose ground attachment. Schneider Electric in conjunction with the Consumer Product Safety Commission initiated a recall of the Square D QO Plug-on-Neutral Load Centers that may have been affected as a result of this issue. The hazard the loose ground poses is that of thermal overload, burn or fire hazard. The panels likely do not need to be replaced and can likely be repaired.
To know if your panel is one that is being recalled you can check a few things: #1 - Is it a Square D QO Plug-on-Neutral Load Center? Will be signified with a model # in the middle of your data tag starting with "QO" #2 - Was your panel manufactured between February of 202 and January of 2022? #3 - Is your serial # date code between 200561-220233? This can be found in the lower right hand corner of your data tag under the Square D brand name If any of these 3 things is true about your electrical panel I recommend contacting Schneider. There has been only one incident reported of the loose grounding lug accompanied by an electrical hazard thus far. They have been very proactive with this and once you contact them they will be performing the inspection and repair at no cost to consumers. To contact Schneider to find out if your panel is one of the recalled units or to initiate a possible claim under this recall call them at (888)778-2733.
